Landed in the early morning of June 26th, the venture leaders China 2017 team started their breathless business roadshow in China. In the next following days until July 4th, they traveled across China including Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, meeting 400 local entrepreneurs, attending 13 workshops, 7 pitching events. We had the pleasure to follow the trip and witness the strong spirit of our Swiss national startup team.

After the welcome event in the afternoon to meet with local entrepreneurs, the team was warmly welcomed by the Swiss Ambassador to China, H.E. Jean-Jacques de Dardel in the Swiss Embassy. Invited guests from local industries and investment community showed great interests towards the technologies and products presented by the venture leaders. During the reception, they also met the Swiss State Secretary Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, who was invited by the Vice Party Secretary Huai Jinpeng of Tianjin, former Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, to attend the World Intelligence Congress and “Summer Davos” – the World Economic Forum in Dalian.

The team headed to Tianjin for the Sino-Swiss Business Roundtable at the World Intelligence Congress to present Swiss innovation technologies. Wednesday June 28th – 29th, Dalian

On June 28th evening, our Swiss national startup team pitched against each other during the Swiss Incubator event and got all the attention from a big group of international audiences. Lunaphore, a company focusing on tissue diagnose won this competition. In the next day, the delegation participated the forum and discovered various topics regarding China’s current economic and social development as well as related policies and trends.

Friday June 30th – Sunday July 2nd, Shanghai

In Shanghai, the delegation had 4 pitching events and intensive coaching workshops from local industry experts. During each pitch, the venture leaders had to present their charms to win the audiences’ votes for the “best pitch” award. If you don’t have a drone, if you don’t speak Chinese, it will be a tough competition, but you could still win! Watch this recap video of their pitch contest in Shanghai XNode.

“I had a very rich experience mentoring at venture leaders. The startup I met was a market leader in consumer goods in Switzerland and Northern Europe, which led to in depth conversations about the Chinese consumer and set up a company here for a Western entrepreneur. I was impressed by the professional organization and high-quality attendees.”
