Dear Swiss citizens, dear friends of Switzerland,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the first celebration of the ‘Escalade’ to be held in Shanghai, China! The ‘Escalade’ is one of the oldest and most known customs in the French part of Switzerland. For those who are not familiar with it: in 1602, during the night of 11th December, the city of Geneva resisted to the invasion of his Christian neighbor, at the time the Duke of Savoy. Since then, the citizens of Geneva take this victory to the street every year on 11 December and called it ‘Escalade’ (which means climbing in French, in reference to the Savoyard soldiers, who attempted to scale the city ramparts).
The first ‘Escalade’ in China will take place on Thursday, 12.12.2013 at 5 pm at the restaurant Geneva (1876A Hami Road, Changning District, Shanghai). We are honoured to bring all traditional activities of the ‘Escalade’ to Shanghai and share the pride of the Genevans. For more details kindly refer to the enclosed invitation. Please send an email to register at mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, 9 December 2013.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
