About Nathalie Fontana
Nathalie Fontana has joined the central development office of EPFL as new Director of Philanthropy in April 2017. She has over 10 years of experience in major donor fundraising in the Higher Education sector, both national and international. She has joined EPFL from the University of Oxford where she led the international Principal Gifts team. Previous to that she was the Director of Strategic Partnerships at ETH Zurich Foundation. In both roles, she has worked intensively with HNWI, foundations and major corporates in Switzerland and across Europe.
“EPFL is a prestigious and one of the most successful ‘young’ universities in the world with a remarkable success in a relatively short period of time. The generosity of private funders has helped the school to strengthen its profile as a leading academic institution to partner with in order to tackle societal challenges. All of this contributes to a compelling story and creates momentum in fundraising. Passion – purpose – impact, that’s the value-chain of philanthropy and that’s what donors can find at EPFL.” says Nathalie.
Nathalie’s motivation is to drive and significantly advance the philanthropic ambitions of EPFL and to achieve a long-term, sustainable income growth. The 50th anniversary of EPFL offers a unique opportunity and the launch of EPFL’s first fundraising campaign will be a major focus of her team. Nathalie and her team work closely with the President and the Direction, senior management, key academics and members of staff across the school.
In addition to her work, Nathalie is member of the board of CASE Europe (The Council of Advancement and Support in Education, based in London) and trustee of the Swiss-American Society where she is the chair of the scholarship fund. She is a passionate cyclist, enjoys hiking and nature and has an interest in arts and culture.
