swissnex Staff Invited to Visit the State Key Lab of Metal Matrix Composites, Shanghai Jiao Tong University

swissnex China staff Xiao Yin and Romain de Luze were invited to visit the State Key Lab of Metal Matrix Composites (SKLMMC) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Minhang Campus.

SKLMMC was established as early as 1989 and has 72 researchers currently. Though the mission of the Lab is to provide new  aeronautical and astronautical composites for national defense, it has developed strong research competence in novel types of funcitonal composites materials. Together with Metal Matrix Composite and Polymer Composite,  they are now 3 main research topics in SKLMMC.

Prof. Zhang Di, Head of SKLMMC, is leading the group of functional material inspired from nature species such as plant and agricultural residues and butterflies. The result has caught the attention of NewScientist, BBC, Nature Chanel, etc. The group has already established collaborative links with universities and research organizations in USA, Japan, Sweden and Australia and is very interested to cooperate with Swiss institutions.

Xiao Yin and Romain de Luze had a discussion with Prof. Zhang Di and Dr. Zhang Wang and a guided tour to the laboratories.
