swissnex China understands the importance of World exhibitions as grand events
for economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges and is delighted
to present the ‘Design Prize Switzerland’ exhibition from 23 August to 5 September
2010 and "the container" from 23 to 26 August 2010 at the Swiss Pavilion.
Switzerland has a longstanding tradition in industrial design, which is mostly
classified as precise, functional and technically ingenious. ‘Design Prize
Switzerland’, a Swiss association intended to highlight the importance of Swiss
design, understands its role as that of giving uncompromising encouragement
to adventurous ideas which will create new paths for the future of design.
Every two years, ‘Design Prize Switzerland’ awards the most recent Swiss
industrial design products. The Prize, awarded by an international jury,
is the top award in Switzerland and is intended to support the outstanding
Swiss design profile.
The ‘Design Prize Switzerland’ exhibition at the Swiss Pavilion will exhibit prize-winning, top quality awarded and nominated works, coming from different prize categories. From contemporary fashion design to unique furniture pieces, the exhibition presents products that have successfully been introduced in the market during the last two years and newcomer projects of young designers who have to make a name for themselves.
"the container" will underline the longlasting relations between Switzerland and China. The inflatable, red walk-in house is an art project of the artists Sandra Kunz (Switzerland) and Yang Jian (China), which bridges the two cultures. They created an architectural and spatial sculpture which couples elements belonging to each of the indigenous cultures of China and Switzerland.
What is "the container"?... An enourmous prototype of a cultural fusion which has pronounced features belonging to both nations in a broader context, of the East and West, an inflatable hybrid which is metaphoric in nature.
"the container" has been presented in 2008 in collaboration with the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, Shanghai and in 2009 st the 10th anniversary exhibition of the Chinese European Art Center, Xiamen, China.
swissnex China will liaise between the Swiss Pavilion management team and ‘Design Prize Switzerland through and bring support related to organizational matters. It is swissnex China’s aim to promote recent, innovative and outstanding works coming from Switzerland in order to encourage the exchange between Chinese and Swiss designers.
